The short version
- Spit AI only listens while the capture screen is open. It never listens in the background.
- Your phone’s built-in speech recognition turns speech into text. Spit AI never stores or uploads the recording.
- The text is sent to our server and an AI model (Google Gemini) to find tasks, dates and repeats.
- Your tasks are saved on your phone and backed up to our servers, so they can follow you to another phone when you sign in.
- We don’t sell your data or show you ads. You can delete your tasks, or your whole account, at any time.
1. Who we are
Spit AI (“Spit AI”, “we”, “us”) makes the Spit AI app and this website. If you have a question about this policy or your data, email support@spitai.app.
2. What we collect, and why
Your voice
When you tap the mic, your phone’s built-in speech recognition (Apple’s on iPhone, Google’s on Android) turns what you say into text. That service is run by your phone’s maker under its own privacy terms. Spit AI never stores or uploads your audio recording — we only receive the text.
The words you say or type
To turn your words into tasks, we send the text, along with your time zone, to our server, which asks Google’s Gemini AI model to find the tasks, dates, times and repeats in it. We keep a record of each capture (the text, your time zone, how many tasks were found, and when) so we can show where a task came from, count your free AI captures, and fix problems.
Your tasks and settings
Your tasks, reminders and settings are saved on your phone. They are also backed up to our servers under a private guest account that the app creates for you, so nothing is lost if you change phones and sign in.
Your account
You don’t need an account to use Spit AI. If you choose to sign in, we use your email address to send you a one-time sign-in code and to connect your tasks across phones. You can also add a first name, which is only used inside the app.
Purchases
Spit Pro is bought through Apple’s App Store (or Google Play on Android). We never see your payment card details. Our subscription providers receive an anonymous app user ID and your purchase status so we can unlock Pro on your account.
Messages you send us
If you send feedback or contact us, we keep your message and, if you give it, your email address so we can reply.
What we don’t collect
- We don’t collect your contacts, photos or location.
- We don’t use advertising trackers or build advertising profiles.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
3. Who helps us run Spit AI
We share data only with the service providers we need to run the app, and only for that purpose:

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.
4. Reminders and widgets
Reminders are scheduled on your phone as local notifications. Widgets read a small summary of your day that is stored on your phone. You can turn notifications off at any time in your phone’s settings.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your tasks and capture records for as long as you have an account. When you delete a task, it is removed from your phone and our servers when the app next syncs. When you delete your account, your tasks, capture records and profile are permanently deleted from our servers.
6. Your choices
- Delete your tasks one by one, or all at once from Settings › Privacy & data.
- Delete your account and everything on our servers from Settings › Privacy & data.
- Turn off the microphone or notifications any time in your phone’s settings. You can still type tasks.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by emailing support@spitai.app. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, and you can contact your local data protection authority.
7. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, and each account can only reach its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect yours.
8. Children
Spit AI is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has used Spit AI, contact us and we’ll delete their data.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
